Sam first tried to escape North Korea when he was only six-years-old. Over twenty years later, Sam is a permanent resident of Canada.

Meet Sam.

“When Canadians help to bring North Korean refugees here, they’re helping someone like me.”

Sam Kim, North Korean Escapee

Our historic pilot resettles 5 families in 2 years.

We aim to create a safe foundation for North Korean families to resettle and succeed in Canada.

Here’s how we plan to do that.

Identify Vulnerable Families

We work with on-the-ground partners to identify and screen applicants.

3.jpg

Train and Educate Sponsors

We increase the capacity of sponsors to successfully support the families.

Coordinate Resettlement

We monitor and coordinate the delivery of settlement services for the families.

North Koreans escaping their country are in danger.

North Koreans have to travel over 5,000 km to get to safety.

The journey starts in Northern China, stretches down through Southeast Asia, and ends only once they safely travel to their final destination in South Korea or the US.

If caught trying to escape, they face extremely harsh punishment.

If caught trying to escape, North Koreans can face extremely harsh punishment, including detention in prison camps, forced labour, forced abortions, brutal beatings, and torture.

Over 80% are women. They’re at risk of sexual and gender-based violence.

North Korean women and girls are at high risk of sexual and gender-based violence in transit. Many never reach safety and are trapped in the sex industry or sold as brides.

You can make a life changing difference.
