Our NEXT 10-YEAR AGENDA:

Engaging the 99%

In the 10 years since our start, we've accomplished a lot.

And now, we push further with a new agenda for the next 10 years: The "99% Engagement" Agenda.

WHO IS THE 99%?

Those who escape North Korea.

The North Korean gov't, according to a UN report (2014), is described as a regime which commits “unspeakable” atrocities against its own people: “The gravity, scale and nature of these violations reveal a State that does not have any parallel in the contemporary world.”

Thousands escape across the border to China. When they reach Thailand or other transitory states, there are few options left for a second home and a second chance at life.

We believe Canada must play an active role in assisting North Korean refugees.

WHO IS THE 99%?

Future leaders that deserve a voice - and a seat at the table.

A group of privileged individuals usually take the mantle of having to stand-in for the 99%, where clearly it would be more effective for an actual refugee with lived experience and live contacts at "home” to advocate for their own.

We believe refugee-outreach and development programs are critical to ensuring that the voices of the 99% are properly represented in solution-finding exercises across the world.

WHO IS THE 99%?

Those who are still in North Korea.

An enduring and peaceful solution on the Korean peninsula without the overreach of foreign powers must include participation by the everyday North Korean.  An uneducated citizenry is an ineffective one.

We believe that civil society groups should support any efforts that increase information dissemination within and outside North Korea.

WHO IS THE 99%?

Us, Canadians.

In an isolated country more than 10,000 kilometres away, there are 24 million people trapped in one of the most brutal and repressive authoritarian systems in current existence.  They do not know that on the other side of the world, there is another 99% - us, Canadians - who care.

We believe Canadians must go even further. We must act.
